Research

Our research at the Beyond Defense Lab centers on advancing cybersecurity in critical digital infrastructures, with a particular emphasis on VPNs, space systems, mobile applications, and web services. We combine malware analysis, vulnerability management, and threat intelligence to identify weaknesses, develop threat models, and build robust defenses against emerging attack vectors.

Research Areas

VPN Security

We investigate attacks and defenses in mobile VPNs, focusing on protocol vulnerabilities, encryption weaknesses, and user privacy risks. Our work aims to enhance secure adoption of VPN technologies in mobile environments.

Key Publication: MVPNAlyzer [NDSS 2026]

Space Systems Security

Our research addresses the unique security challenges of satellite systems, including onboard communication paradigms, satellite-to-ground station interaction, and onboard data integrity. We develop threat models and defense mechanisms to protect space-based assets from cyber threats.

Key Publication: The Silent Subversion attack on satellite systems [Aerospace 2026]

Mobile App and Web Service Audits

We conduct regular security audits of mobile applications and web services, identifying vulnerabilities such as insecure data handling, API weaknesses, and authentication flaws. This work contributes to safer technology adoption and informed trust in digital ecosystems.

Ongoing Projects

  • Abuse vectors for emerging VPN protocols
  • Threat modeling for space-based systems
  • Automated auditing tools for web security
  • Privacy-preserving frameworks for critical infrastructures
